NC State Holds Forensic Science Symposium for National and State Law Enforcement

North Carolina State University will hold its second annual forensic science symposium –including demonstrations and discussions of cutting-edge crime scene investigation technology and techniques – on Tuesday, Dec. 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the College of Textiles.

The event is open to the media, and will be held in the College of Textiles’ Convocation Room (room 2309) on NC State’s Centennial Campus. Media parking is available in the visitor’s lot in front of the college on Main Campus Drive or in the large lot at the side of the college on Research Drive. Dr. Douglas Ubelaker, curator at the Smithsonian Museum, will be giving the keynote speech at 9:15 a.m. on the state of forensic science in the United States. National and state law enforcement, justice-serving companies and forensic science researchers will learn more about state-of-the-art capabilities for crime scene investigation and review recent forensic activities held at NC State.

NC State forensic experts Dr. Ann H. Ross, associate professor of anthropology; Dr. David Hinks, associate professor of textile engineering, chemistry and science; Dr. Wes Watson, associate professor of entomology; and Dr. Billy Oliver, director of the NC Office of Archaeological Research Center and adjunct assistant professor of anthropology, will discuss the forensics work being conducted at NC State, as well as encourage discussion on forensic needs in North Carolina.
