Eat Lunch to Stop Hunger

Here’s your chance to do something meaningful to stop hunger around the world: eat lunch.

On Wednesday, Aug. 4, you can sample a nutritious Stop Hunger Now meal, courtesy of the folks at the Center for Student Leadership, Ethics and Public Service.

Bring your lunch money and drop by the Talley Student Center, Room 3118, between noon and 2 p.m.

“We just ask that you donate what you would have spent that day on lunch at an off-campus restaurant,” says Mike Giancola, CSLEPS director.

You can sample the prepackaged meals NC State volunteers assemble by the thousands each year.

Student reviewers give the food a thumbs-up. Some say the rice, soy and vegetable blend tastes a little like Ramen noodles.

If you’re inspired, you can also volunteer to host your own fundraising party featuring the food that’s served to thousands of children in school feeding programs.

This year, NC State volunteers will package 400,000 meals on campus Aug. 21. All of this year’s meals will go to Haiti. The annual packaging event with Raleigh-based nonprofit Stop Hunger Now grew out of a community service initiative called Service NC State.

If you’re interested in taking part, get in touch with CSLEPS to find out how you can help.
