Student Media Honored

NC State’s yearbook and literary magazine won top national honors, while students at WKNC radio took home awards for best deejay, regular program and student media Web site from the Associated Collegiate Press.

The 2009 Agromeck was one of only four yearbooks in the nation to receive a Pacemaker award, the highest honor, during a national student media convention in Louisville, Ky., Oct. 31.

The 2009 edition of Windhover literary and arts magazine took home NC State’s 12th Pacemaker award since 1992.

Best deejay honors went to Mike Alston and Kelly Reid, on the air as DJ Mick and Mz. Kelly. They also collaborated on WKNC’s public affairs program, “Eye on the Triangle,” the winner for best regularly scheduled program. The station’s third award was for wknc.org, selected as best student media Web site.

Three NCSU publications placed in the Best of Show competition, a ranking of publications submitted at the national convention. The 2010 Windhover placed first in its category. Technician‘s 2010 summer New Student Orientation issue was third. Among yearbooks of 300 or more pages, Agromeck placed fifth.
