Zublena Leads Extension

Dr. Joe Zublena has been named state Cooperative Extension Service director and associate dean for extension in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, effective immediately.

Zublena, director of county operations for extension, has served as the organization’s interim director since Dr. Jon Ort retired May 1.

Zublena came to NC State in 1988 as professor and extension leader for the soil science department, where he was also a specialist in waste management and utilization.

Since then, he has served in many extension roles: associate state program leader for natural resources and community and rural development, assistant extension director and director of county operations, associate extension director and director of county operations, interim associate dean and director of extension, associate extension director and director of county operations.

Zublena previously worked as a professor and regional extension agronomist for corn and sorghum in Clemson University’s agronomy and soils department.
