Sherman Releases Vermiculture Book

Rhonda Sherman, solid waste Cooperative Extension specialist, is co-editor of the first scientific book on vermicomposting (composting with worms).

Vermiculture Technology: Earthworms, Organic Wastes and Environmental Management, was released in December by CRC Press. The book discusses how vermiculture can be brought into full commercial and industrial development and integrated into waste management systems. Contributors highlight the science and biology behind vermicomposting, examine its importance to developing countries and discuss related technology.

For 10 years, Sherman, a faculty member in biological and agricultural engineering, has hosted an annual Vermiculture Conference, which in May attracted  116 participants from 28 U.S. states and five other countries.
