The NCSU Libraries is now making over 2,000 titles from its DVD collection available to the NC State community and to the others who have borrowing privileges. The circulating film collection contains everything from the works of European auteurs to South Asian and Bollywood titles to popular date movies. As Dr. Maria Pramaggiore, director of film studies, explains, you can “forget about stalking your own mailbox, desperately waiting for the next Netflix installment, or suffering through those slow, glitchy streams from the Web. The films you want to see—the films you need to see—are waiting for you at the circulation desk at D. H. Hill Library.”

Many of the DVDs have been collected over the last several decades to support the teaching of film, history and communication at the university. However, in order to supplement and complement students’ classroom experience across all subject areas, the collection will continue to growth to incorporate new titles. The teaching collection will continue to be managed separately from the circulating collection to ensure that students can always easily access films that have been put on reserve by their instructors.

The circulating collection has something for all tastes and interests, including esoteric titles, documentaries, horror films and titles of local interest.

The libraries launched the Admit One blog to provide suggestions on how to navigate this intriguing collection. The website provides a variety of short reviews written by members of the Wolfpack community. The circulating DVD collection is located to the right as you enter the main doors of the D. H. Hill Library.

If you don’t have borrowing privileges to the NCSU Libraries, they are available by joining the Friends of the Library.
