Hillsborough Street Project a Winner

The community partnership behind the Hillsborough Street revitalization project will take home a top award next week from the North Carolina chapter of the American Planning Association.

The City of Raleigh, NC State and the Hillsborough Street Partnership have won a 2011 Marvin Collins Planning Award for outstanding project implementation in the large community category. The award will be presented Oct. 6 in Charlotte at the association’s annual conference.

The $9.2 million City of Raleigh renovation project, completed last fall, was a decade in the making. Ideas for the revitalization grew out of a five-day design conference at NC State. In 1999, private businesses, homeowner groups and public agencies began working together on revitalization, ultimately forming the nonprofit Hillsborough Street Partnership.
