Provost Announces Changes

Dr. Warwick Arden has announced structural changes in the provost’s office.

As part of the university’s strategic realignment, many vice provost units and some centrally reporting academic programs will be grouped under senior vice provosts who will report directly to Arden. All colleges, the libraries, Institutional Planning and Analysis, Institutional Equity and Diversity, and Faculty Affairs will continue to report directly to the provost.

Dr. Duane Larick has been named senior vice provost for strategic initiatives and dean of the graduate school, leading the following units:

  • Graduate School
  • Enrollment Management and Services
  • International Affairs
  • Institute of Advanced Analytics
  • Biotechnology Program

Dr. Tom Miller is serving as senior vice provost for academic outreach and entrepreneurship, with oversight for these groups:

  • Distance Education and Learning Technology Applications (DELTA)
  • Continuing Education
  • Entrepreneurship Initiative
  • Engagement and Outreach

A search will begin later this fall for a senior vice provost for student services and dean of undergraduate programs, who will lead a combined Division of Undergraduate Academic Programs/Student Affairs unit known as the Division of Student Services and Programs, beginning in July 2012.

Arden also announced the appointments of vice provosts who will lead divisions for Student Services and Programs.

  • Dr. Lisa Zapata—Health, Wellness and Student Development
  • Alex Miller—Arts NC State
  • Dr. Tim Luckadoo—Campus Life
  • Dr. Jose Picart—Academic Programs and Services

The restructuring reduces the overall number of senior administrators, with significantly fewer vice chancellor and associate vice chancellor positions, Arden said. To see the changes, view the provost’s organizational chart.
