NC State Experts Offer Insight On Obama Jobs Bill, Economy, Election

Dr. Andrew Taylor, professor of political science, is an authority on the White House, Congress and public policy. Contact: Office: 919/515-8618, Cell: (919) 389-6154 or andrew_taylor@ncsu.edu.

“President Obama needs to demonstrate he is working on the  unemployment issue, the issue that is likely to be at the center of the 2012 campaign,” Taylor says. “He can best get his jobs bill passed by taking it to the public. He also needs to reconnect with perhaps his most fervent supporters in 2008, young people. This visit checks both boxes.”

Dr. Steven Greene, associate professor of political science at North Carolina State University, is an expert on presidential elections, public opinion, media and public policy. Contact: Office: 919/513-0520, Cell: 919/757-6384, or steven.greene@ncsu.edu.

Dr. Michael Walden is an expert on consumer economics, economic policies and outlook. Walden is particularly knowledgeable about the North Carolina economy and how the recession has been different in the state. He can also evaluate the likely impacts of national economic policies in the current economic climate. Walden is the William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics. Contact: Office: 919/515-4671, Cell: 919/219-8923 or michael_walden@ncsu.edu.

Dr. David Zonderman, professor of history, is an authority on American labor. Contact: Office: 919/513-2222, Cell: 919/434-6033 or david_zonderman@ncsu.edu.

“President Obama’s latest proposal for an American Jobs Act is another effort to use the fiscal power of the federal government to promote a sustainable economic recovery,” Zonderman says. “Though the President’s conservative critics often dismiss his proposals, the historical record and Keynesian economic models indicate that such public spending can indeed promote economic growth in the short and long term.”
