Chinn Receives Early Career Award

Dr. Mari S. Chinn received an early career award for leadership in education from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE).

Chinn, an associate professor of biological and agricultural engineering, received the 2011 A.W. Farrall Young Educator Award, given for outstanding career achievements among ASABE members under 40.

The society cited Chinn’s accomplishments in educating future agricultural and biological engineers through her teaching, research and service.

“Her high level of dedication and motivation, natural leadership skills, and gregarious personality make her one of the best and brightest educators of the current agricultural and biological engineering profession,” the society said in an award announcement.

Chinn joined the NC State faculty in 2003. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biological systems engineering at the University of California, Davis, and master’s and doctoral degrees in biosystems engineering from the University of Kentucky.
