Accounting Students Offer Free Tax Help

NC State accounting students will provide free help with tax returns for students, university employees and local residents who earn less than $49,000.

Students in the Poole College of Management earned certification from the Internal Revenue Service for the annual Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

The VITA students will offer help in the Nelson Hall computing lab, Room B411, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m on four Saturdays this spring: Feb. 11, Feb. 25, March 17 and March 31. Nelson Hall is at 2801 Founders Drive. Use the lower level doors on the southwest corner.

The VITA students have been certified to prepare federal and North Carolina state income tax returns, as well as helping individuals determine their qualification for Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC), said Ernest Carraway, accounting lecturer and faculty coordinator for the service project. Participants must have a valid Social Security Number and resident status.

For directions and full details about required documents and forms the VITA students can assist with, read the full story on the Poole College of Management website.
