Ms. Wuf Goes Global

NC State is home to 3,600 international students and their families representing over 130 countries. Ms. Wuf joined the international community at the fifth annual End of the Year Party hosted by the Office of International Services last week.

OIS hosted the party to celebrate the successful completion of another academic year, to thank their dedicated volunteers and to celebrate NC State’s wonderful international population. Approximately 600 people came out to enjoy food from three caterers; Barry’s Cafe (American), Virgil’s Jamaica (Caribbean) and Kaplan Catering (South American).

Outdoor games provided students, scholars and their families a chance to relax and spend time with friends. The event also featured the fourth annual OIS Invitational Donut Eating Competition in which teams of two had to complete a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts, with the fastest team walking away as champions. The 2013 winning team, Tahmid Latif and Adnan Choudhury from Bangladesh, completed the challenge in 1 minute, 37 seconds.

Rana Gurarslan, a Ph.D. student from Turkey in the College of Textiles, attended the party for the second year in a row with her daughter and husband.

“I am glad OIS organizes a party like this because it is a great way to see friends and enjoy some time together before summer,” she said.

This year’s party was held last Friday at the Centennial Campus Oval.
