Avoid Homecoming Traffic Woes

As the build up for NC State’s homecoming events comes to a weekend crescendo, traffic on campus leading up to Saturday’s 12:30 p.m. football kickoff against rival North Carolina at Carter-Finley Stadium is expected to increase, thanks in part to Friday evening’s homecoming parade.

Portions of Hillsborough Street will be closed during the event, which begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday on Sullivan Drive, winding its way through campus, onto Hillsborough Street and back down Cates Avenue. Anyone who needs to leave campus during the parade should exit to the south toward Western Boulevard.

The parade is expected to conclude by 7:30 p.m.

Buses that normally pick up on Hillsborough Street will be rerouted to Oberlin Road. No cars will be allowed on Hillsborough during the parade.

The float staging area for the parade is located in the “C” parking lot behind the the Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium and will take up about one-third of the spaces in the lot. Those with “C” permits can also park on Varsity Drive between Thurman and Sullivan drives.

Wolfline, Capital Area Transit and TT bus service will be suspended during the parade.

On Saturday, portions of Main Campus Drive on Centennial Campus from Research Drive to Campus Shore Drive will be closed from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. for construction work. There will be no bus service to the College of Textiles or the Hunt Library during this time.

Sunday, during the annual City of Oaks road race, portions of Hillsborough Street will again be closed from 6:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
