Dick Gregory to Speak at MLK Event

Legendary civil rights activist and comedian Dick Gregory will highlight the NC State African American Cultural Center’s commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Gregory will give his presentation “The Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Activism in the 21st Century” 6–8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at the McKimmon Center.

Gregory began his career in comedy doing part-time standup while working for the U.S. Postal Service. He also became politically active in the 1960s, performing and speaking in Selma, Ala., prior the Freedom Day voter registration drive.

In 1968 he ran as a write-in candidate for president, representing the Peace and Freedom party. He has remained politically active ever since.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call the African American Cultural Center at 515-5210.
