Sischo Named Vice Chancellor for Advancement at NC State

Brian C. Sischo, a 23-year veteran of higher education fund raising, has been named vice chancellor for university advancement at NC State University and president of the NC State University Foundation. Sischo comes to NC State from Syracuse University where he has served as vice president for development since 2009.

The NC State Board of Trustees today unanimously approved Sischo’s appointment. He is scheduled to start his new position in late March. At NC State, Sischo will oversee development, alumni relations and communications.

Sischo brings to NC State an impressive track record of success in higher education advancement. He currently leads more than 100 central- and unit-based fund-raising staff at Syracuse. He spearheaded the planning, implementation and successful conclusion – in December 2012 – of the university’s $1 billion comprehensive fundraising campaign. Among many notable accomplishments under his leadership, private annual gift support to the university more than doubled during the campaign period.

“NC State is proud to bring in one of the most respected higher education advancement leaders in the nation,” said Chancellor Randy Woodson.  “I am confident Brian’s outstanding leadership, skills and expertise will go a long way in elevating NC State to even greater levels of success.”

“I’m thrilled to be joining the NC State family and eager to begin work at a university with such strong strategic direction, visionary leadership, tremendously loyal alumni, and dedicated faculty and staff,” Sischo said. “NC State truly is one of the nation’s leading research universities and I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a great team.”

Prior to his current role, Sischo worked his way up the development ladder at Syracuse, serving as assistant vice president and then associate vice president and campaign director.

Before joining Syracuse in 2001, Sischo worked at his alma mater – Clarkson University – for more than 10 years, serving as director of corporate relations, director of major gifts and director of development, and leading the completion of a successful capital campaign.

Sischo earned a bachelor of science degree in finance and a master’s degree in management systems from Clarkson.

Sischo’s philanthropic efforts extend into the community, as he currently serves as treasurer of the board of trustees for Syracuse Stage, a professional theatre company, and as a member of the board of directors for The First Tee of Syracuse, an organization that promotes character development and life-enhancing values to underprivileged youth through the game of golf.

Sischo and his wife, Kathy, have a college-age daughter and a son who is a junior in high school.
