Marks to Lead Vet Health Complex

Steven Marks has been appointed associate dean and director of medical services in  the College of Veterinary Medicine, effective July 1. In his new position, he will oversee NC State’s Veterinary Health Complex.

Marks, a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, is clinical professor of internal and emergency medicine and a service chief of small animal medicine.

Marks came to NC State in 2005 after positions at the University of Illinois, Louisiana State University, Colorado State University, Cardio Pet Inc. and Washington State University.

Marks’ research involves emergency and critical care, general internal medicine, cardiopulmonary medicine and pain management. Marks has received numerous teaching awards at NC State, including the the Pfizer Distinguished Teacher Award, the Zoetis Distinguished Teacher Award and the Outstanding Teacher Award.

“The students, staff, house officers, faculty and referring veterinary community all contribute to the success of the Veterinary Health Complex,” Marks said. “I look forward to working with this exceptional team to provide cutting-edge patient care and service.”

Marks earned a bachelor of veterinary science from the University of Liverpool. He had a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed his residency in small animal internal medicine at Washington State University, where he also earned a master’s degree in veterinary medicine.
