Seminar on MOOCs, OOCs

DELTA invites faculty and staff to the upcoming seminar, “MOOCs and OOCs at NC State: Current Work and Lessons Learned,” which will explore the future of massive open online courses and open online courses at the university.

The seminar will take place 2:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at the Friday Institute. The event is free, but registration is required since as space is limited.

Guest speakers include Paul Franzon, professor of electrical and computer engineering; Glenn Kleiman, executive director of the Friday Institute; H. Christian Hölljes, professor of innovation and design; Tom Miller, senior vice provost for academic outreach and entrepreneurship;  Cathi Phillips Dunnagan, lead instructional designer at DELTA; and Dan Deter, DELTA’s associate director of systems support.

Franzon will discuss his experiences leading NC State’s first experimental OOC, Digital ASIC Design, last summer. Kleiman will talk about the Friday Institute’s MOOCs for Educators program that helps promote the professional development of K-12 educators in North Carolina and beyond. And Hölljes will deliver a presentation, “UX and Interfacing Big Data.”

Speakers will also lead a discussion about the role these courses should play in the future of teaching and learning at NC State.
