News Goes ‘Think and Do’

Belltower.

It’s been a couple of weeks since NC State rolled out its new website design, including a streamlined news site that merges the Bulletin – the faculty and staff news site – with the university’s other central news channels.

Now that you’ve had some time to browse the site, please take a few moments to pass along your feedback to the designers and editors. You can send your input to bulletin@ncsu.edu or post a comment at the bottom of this article.

University Communications – the creative team that manages NC State’s marketing, communications, public relations and media relations – undertook the redesign as part of a new branding campaign that focuses NC State’s messaging around four brand drivers:

  • World-leading faculty at the forefront of interdisciplinary innovation
  • Cutting-edge, solution-driven research, technology and scholarship
  • Extensive partnerships with business, industry and government
  • Leadership in experiential education

One of the reasons for the redesign is to better incorporate the exciting elements of the new brand, including the brand strategy, voice and tone, and visual identity, into the university’s central Web platforms such as the home page and the news site.

If you’ve noticed the phrase “think and do” cropping up in articles and on websites, then you’ve already experienced the core of the new brand, NC State’s bold focus on active engagement with the world.

The New News

You’ll see that focus again and again on the news site (and hopefully everywhere) as University Communications talks about the people, ideas and discoveries that make NC State a leader in higher education. Whether it’s an article on a researcher using computers to train dogs in disaster response or a tour of campus makerspaces, the redesigned news site is your source for information on NC State’s vibrant community of faculty, staff, students and alumni.

The news site also features highlighted events from the university calendar, links to external media coverage of NC State people and events, and a link to the university’s latest social media post.

Of course, not everything is changing. You’ll still receive a weekly Bulletin email with links to top stories in a wide range of categories, including research and innovation, campus life, HR and finance, awards, and service and community. And the editorial team remains committed to delivering timely, accurate news and features that engage and inform the NC State community.
