Dr. Michael Walden has been made an honorary member of the North Carolina World Trade Association.
Dr. Wendy Boss, plant biology, has been named a Fellow of the American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB). The the Fellow of ASPB award may be granted in recognition of distinguished and long-term contributions to plant biology and service to the Society by current members in areas that include research, education, mentoring, outreach, and professional and public service.
Dr. Marie Davidian, William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor of Statistics, has received the Janet L. Norwood Award for Outstanding Achievement by a Woman in Statistical Sciences. The award was established in 2002 to honor Dr. Janet Norwood and to recognize the contribution of all women to the statistical sciences.
Dr. Leonard Bull, animal science and Animal and Poultry Waste Management Center, was recently elected chair of the Southeast Agriculture and Forestry Energy (SAFE) Alliance, which is affiliated with the national initiative called "25x25" and associated with the Southern Growth Policies Board.
Dr. Ruben Carbonell and Dr. Michael Walden have been appointed to the UNC Tomorrow Commission's Scholars Council.
Dr. Ralph Kaplan, NCSU Libraries, has been elected to the position of director-at-large of the North Carolina Library Association (NCLA) for 2007-09.
Dr. Jonathan Kramer and Dr. Mark Scearce, Department of Music, were selected as two of 32 music professionals to attend Tanglewood II, a conference shaping music education for the 21st century.
Dr. Gianluca Lazzi, electrical and computer engineering, has been elected editor-in-chief of the journal IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters.
Gary Palin, Entrepreneurship Education Initiative, has been appointed to serve on the board of advisors of MIT's Global Startup Workshop.
Dr. Richard D. Gould has been appointed as Department Head for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, effective Aug. 16, 2007.
Dr. Tom Roberts has been appointed as Department Head for Physical Education, effective July 1, 2007.
Dr. Awatif Hassan, Forestry & Environmental Resources, was named an American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering Fellow.
Dr. Charles Boss, Dr. Carl Bumgardner, Dr. William Switzer and Dr. George Wahl Jr. have received “Salutes to Excellence Awards” from the American Chemical Society recognizing their longtime contributions to the field of chemistry.
Dr. Jan Genzer, chemical and biomolecular engineering, and Dr. Peter L. Mente, biomedical engineering, have received Outstanding Teacher Awards in the College of Engineering.
Dr. Ayman Hawari, nuclear engineering, and Dr. Mohammed Zikry, mechanical and aerospace engineering, have received 2007 Alcoa Foundation Engineering Research Awards.
Dr. Jacqueline Hughes-Oliver, statistics, has been named a fellow of the American Statistical Association.
Dr. Lee-Anne Milburn, landscape architecture, has received a Regional Research Award from the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects for her research, “Our Rural Future? The Non-Farm Landowner and Ontario’s Changing Countryside.”
Andrew Pace, NCSU Libraries, has been elected vice-president/president-elect of the Library and Information Technology Association (LITA).
Dr. Tom Roberts has been appointed head of the Department of Physical Education, effective July 1.
Dr. Jeanne Smoot, emerita English, has been inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa chapter of her undergraduate alma mater, Eckerd College.
Dr. Raymond Taylor, emeritus education, and Dr. Michael L Vasu, political science, have been inducted as Edelman Laureates by the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences (INFORMS).
Dr. Chau M. Tran, mechanical and aerospace engineering, has received the 2007 George H. Blessis Outstanding Undergraduate Advisor Award in the College of Engineering.
Dr. Robert J. Beichner, physics, was awarded a 2007 Distinguished Service Citation by the American Association of Physics Teachers. These citations are presented to persons in recognition of their exceptional contributions to physics teaching. Beichner is one of just five recipients this year.
Dr. Jeffery Braden, psychology, has been named the associate dean for research and graduate studies in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, effective July 1.
Gene Bressler, landscape architecture, has been elected as a fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
Walter Clark, who recently retired from the North Carolina Sea Grant, has received the Old North State Award from the State of North Carolina for “dedication and service beyond expectation.” Clark also received a certificate of appreciation from the North Carolina Senate.

Dr. Edward Funkhouser, communication, has been named interim associate dean for academic affairs in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Robin Harris, dance program, premiered her work, Élégie, at the Mid-Atlantic American College Dance Festival.
Dr. Yuan-Shin Lee, industrial and systems engineering, has been elected as a fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE).
Erica Lezan and Gabe Wical, new student orientation, co-authored an article titled, “How Using a Common Language Helped Define Staff Selection,” that will be published in the Journal of College Orientation and Transition.
Dr. Ellen McIntyre has been selected to become the first full-time head of the Department of Elementary Education. McIntyre has served as a professor at the University of Louisville for the past 16 years.
Kim Outing, First Year College, has been selected as a 2007 NACADA Outstanding Advising Certificate of Merit recipient by the National Academic Advising Association.
Dr. Fay Cobb Payton, business management, was recently named the inaugural SAS Faculty Fellow.
Patrick Rand, architecture, has been elected as a fellow of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
Matt Rust, First Year College, has been selected as a 2007 NACADA Outstanding New Advisor Certificate of Merit recipient by the National Academic Advising Association.
Dr. Ted R. Simons, zoology, has his research to understand error in avian point count data.
Dr. Paul Tesar will serve as director of the School of Architecture for the 2007-08 academic year.
Anna Turnage, a graduate student in English, received the Bostrom Young Scholar Award from the Southern States Communication Association for her paper, “Scene, Agent, and the Comic Frame in the Duke Rape Case.”
