FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
North Carolina State University will host a delegation of scientists, businessmen, and government officials from Uruguay to discuss the future of that country’s biofuel and forestry industries, as well as the possibility of future collaborations between NC State and Uruguayan researchers. The delegation, which will be on campus June 6-8, will visit NC State as part of a more extensive tour hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy.
The delegation’s agenda will include a number of on-campus presentations and discussions concerning forest biotechnology, bioenergy, tree and water conservation. They will also visit Novozymes, a company that specializes in cellulosic biofuels and alternative energy, and RTI International, where they will focus on technology for producing biofuels using gasification technology. The delegation will be updated on current forestry and land-use projects that NC State is conducting in Uruguay.
“Uruguay’s forestry industry is growing, and they’re looking to experts at NC State and from around the Triangle to help them explore the technical and economic potential for forest bioenergy,” says Dr. Steve Kelley, head of the Department of Wood and Paper Science in the College of Natural Resources.
“It is our hope that this delegation’s visit is the beginning of a larger partnership between the university and Uruguay’s industry and education leaders.”
