Cohen Named Head of Industrial and Systems Engineering at NC State

Dr. Paul H. Cohen has been named the Edgar S. Woolard Distinguished Professor and head of the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University, effective Aug. 16, 2007.  He replaces Dr. James R. Wilson, who has served as head of the department since 1999.

An internationally renowned expert in advanced manufacturing processes and systems, Cohen joins the NC State faculty as the first Edgar S. Woolard Distinguished Professor.  He comes to NC State from Penn State University, where he was a University Distinguished Professor of Industrial Engineering.

Cohen's work has focused on the modeling of plastic deformation processes, development of new tooling materials and tribology.  His recent research has examined properties and processes at the nano-scale.  The recipient of numerous awards from the Institute of Industrial Engineers, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the American Society for Engineering Education and the National Science Foundation, he is the chair-elect of the Council of Fellows of the Institute of Industrial Engineers. He received his Ph.D. from Ohio State University in 1982.
