Orientation Counselor Recruitment Underway
The Office of New Student Orientation is recruiting students to serve as Orientation Counselors for the Summer 2008 New Student Orientation Program. "OCs" fill a number of roles during orientation, including leading tours for incoming first-year and transfer students, facilitating small group discussions and activities with students, interacting with campus representatives, and serving as a resource for questions about campus life.
Orientation Counselors undergo several types of training to learn about the valuable resources on campus to share with incoming students. Incoming OCs will be required to take a training course in the Spring 2008 semester on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 - 4:15 p.m. During training, the OCs will learn about campus offices and services, and how to deliver presentations on them; the orientation program and activities; and team building. In addition to the Tuesday and Thursday sessions, OCs will also attend training on Saturday, Jan. 19 and Saturday, Feb. 9.
Dates of employment include summer training from June 20-29, and orientation sessions from July 2 - Aug. 9, and August 15-23.
Interested students must maintain a 2.5 GPA throughout employment, and be full-time undergraduate students in the Spring and Fall 2008 semesters. Students from all years (freshmen-seniors) are welcome to apply. Candidates are encouraged to attend a 30-minute information session to learn more about the position and the interview process. Information session dates and times, information about the interview process, and an online application are available at www.ncsu.edu/orientation. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by Oct. 19, and the final deadline to apply is Nov. 9. For more information, contact Erica Lezan at 919-513-0187 or erica_lezan@ncsu.edu.
