FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Two North Carolina State University students have recently been named Leaders of the Pack, and will each receive a $1,000 scholarship in honor of their personal and academic achievements.

Anna Louise Patton, a junior majoring in psychology and Spanish from Clayton, N.C., and Nicholas Schultz, a senior in civil engineering from Jacksonville, N.C., were chosen from a field of six finalists to receive the scholarships.

The Leader of the Pack Program replaces NC State's traditional homecoming queen and king contest and recognizes two students who make outstanding contributions to NC State in the areas of leadership, scholarship and community service. Finalists for the honor are selected based on grade-point average, a personal interview, extracurricular activities, written essays on their leadership and service experience and student-body vote.

The scholarships were sponsored by the NC State Alumni Association, Student Government, the Center For Student Leadership, Ethics And Public Service, University Bookstore, the Younts Leadership Fund, and the NC State Athletics Department.

The other four finalists were Allison Barbour, a junior majoring in social work from Raleigh, N.C.; Jamal Irving, a junior majoring in textile engineering and biomedical engineering from Goldsboro, N.C.; Bobby Mills, a junior majoring in economics and political science from Jacksonville, N.C.; and Molly Widmyer, a junior majoring in biomedical engineering from Charles Town, W.Va.
