FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Terry G. Seaks, a member of the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Foundation Board, has helped establish the first endowed distinguished professorship in honor of his wife, Jane Lewis Seaks, at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM).
The professorship is in companion animal medicine and Seaks has expressed an interest in having it support the field of cardiology.
The couple became involved with the CVM following the care their two cats received from the CVM Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Seaks, a professor emeritus of economics at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, joined the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Foundation Board in 2002.
I am extremely pleased to announce this important gift," said CVM Dean Warwick Arden. "Terry and Jane Seaks have been valued friends of the college and their generosity has included previous support for students and faculty. The Jane Lewis Seaks Distinguished Professorship for Companion Animal Medicine represents a milestone in building the long-term financial commitment so critical for the continuation of our mission."
The $1 million distinguished professorship is made possible through a financial arrangement in which a donation by Seaks provides one-third of the necessary funds and is matched by an unrestricted gift from the R.B. Terry Charitable Foundation. The University of North Carolina General Administration will provide the remaining third through its Distinguished Professor Endowment Trust Fund.
We understand the importance of named professorships to retain and attract faculty that have enabled the CVM to rank consistently among the top veterinary programs in the nation," Seaks said. "We made this gift to help ensure that long after Jane and I are gone, our contribution will continue to generate earnings to support great professors as they advance treatments for animal and human medicine."
