E.J. Dionne, Jr., a political columnist for The Washington Post, will address "Why the Culture War is the Wrong War: Issues and Values in the 2008 Election" at the 2008 American Ideas and Political Process lecture series at North Carolina State University.
Dionne's lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 8 p.m. in the Withers Hall auditorium (room 232A) on the NC State campus. Withers Hall is located at 101 Lampe Dr., near the intersection of Hillsborough and Horne streets.
In addition to writing on national policy and politics for The Washington Post, Dionne is a senior fellow at the Brookings Institute in Washington, D.C., and a professor at the University of Georgetown. Dionne is a frequent commentator on national politics on National Public Radio, ABC's This Week and NBC's Meet the Press.
Dionne has also written several books on politics and political issues. His 1991 book, Why Americans Hate Politics, won the Los Angeles Time's book prize and was a National Book Award nominee. Other books by Dionne include Souled Out: Reclaiming Faith and Politics after the Religious Right and Stand Up, Fight Back: Republican Toughs, Democratic Wimps, and the Politics of Revenge.
The American Ideas and Political Process lecture series is sponsored by the Department of Political Sciences in the School of Public and International Affairs in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
