Events at NC State University -- for use by the media as calendar-of-events items or for information
North Carolina State University's Department of History is sponsoring a history weekend examining the theme, "Travelers Tales: History and Narrative." Featured speakers include Jonathan D. Spence, professor of history at Yale, and Natalie Zemon Davis, professor of history at the University of Toronto.
Sponsored by NC State's Department of History, housed in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Friday, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 23, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Friday's session includes a screening and discussion of the film Return of Martin Guerre, which is based on Davis' book of the same title. Saturday's session includes lectures and discussions by Spence and Davis. They will talk about their own travels through history and about the "travelers" they have studied. A lunch and book signing will follow Saturday's session.
Withers Hall on the NC State campus. Withers Hall is located at 101 Lampe Dr., near the intersection of Hillsborough and Horne streets. Parking is available on Hillsborough Street or in the North Residence Hall parking lot, located on Hillsborough Street adjacent to Bruegger's Bagels. Parking is free after 5 p.m. and on weekends.
All events are free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required. Boxed lunches following Saturday's session can be reserved and cost $10.
