FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
High school students will be able to design a neighborhood – and the houses within it – at North Carolina State University this summer.
The project is one of five activities that high school students are undertaking during Design Camp at NC State's College of Design, slated for June 10-16 on campus. Campers will be working on their various projects in design studios from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Media coverage is welcomed; studio activities will present opportunities for feature stories as well as colorful and interesting visuals. Those wishing to cover Design Camp's activities are asked to contact Sherry O'Neal in the College of Design or Tracey Peake in the NC State News Services office in advance.
Other projects include creating a chair for a family member based on the family member’s personality; designing an island retreat (on a real rock) for the fictional Ngised people of Spain; communicating a public message through an oversized wheatpaste poster; and creating a sequence of drawings exploring color theory and composition.
Design Camp draws high school students from across North Carolina and several other states to expose them to college life and five design disciplines – architecture, landscape architecture, industrial design, art and design, and graphic design. Campers participate in one of two separate weeklong overnight camps or a weeklong day camp.
