FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Budding elementary and middle school authors from across the Triangle will read from their original poems and stories, perform scenes from their plays, and showcase their artwork at the conclusion of North Carolina State University’s 23rd annual Young Writers’ Workshop on Friday, June 22, at 1:30 p.m. in room G-107 of Caldwell Hall. Media coverage of the event is invited. Caldwell Hall is connected to Tompkins Hall and faces Hillsborough Street.

In addition to reading from their best works produced during the workshop, participants will enjoy a visit from Ira David Wood III, director of Raleigh’s Theatre in the Park, who will encourage the young artists to nurture their creativity and hone their craft as poets, novelists, and playwrights.

The Young Writers’ Workshop connects area authors and faculty members from NC State’s Department of English with local fourth through eighth graders to help students sharpen their creative thinking and imaginative abilities, study the techniques of writing, and find creative expression through the art of writing. The workshop is a nonprofit project sponsored by NC State’s English department through the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Additionally, the inaugural NC State Teen Writers’ Workshop will be held June 25 to 29 and will culminate in a public reading at the Cameron Village Library at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 29.
