NC State Hosts ‘KidsCan’ Camp for Children of Cancer Patients

North Carolina State University will host its first KidsCan Camp for children whose parents, guardians or relatives have cancer. The camp is a family support program that teaches children more about cancer and its effects, and provides children support and strategies to help them deal with the difficulties that come with a cancer diagnosis. It is sponsored by the Holt Foundation, a non-profit organization started in 1999 by NC State alumni Torry and Terrence Holt, whose mother battled cancer.

The camp, which includes information, group discussions and activities that allow children to ask questions and express concerns about cancer and its treatment, is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 20 in Polk Hall rooms 339 and 341 on NC State’s main campus. Polk Hall is located at 120 Broughton Drive. Media are invited to attend the camp at 11 a.m. to meet the Holt brothers, support staff from Rex Hospital, and NC State researchers involved in providing information about cancer and the basic research being undertaken to learn more about combatting the disease.
