Space to Tinker with Ideas

NC State unveiled its new idea factory for student entrepreneurs on Monday, Sept. 13, on Centennial Campus. Dubbed the “Phase I Garage,” the 2,000-square foot facility in Research Building IV is already serving as an incubator for ideas.

It features meeting areas, work stations and workshops that provide students with woodworking, metalworking and electronics tools to help them turn their dreams into reality.

Chancellor Randy Woodson played host to the media and industry partners at the opening day event. He was joined by Red Hat CEO Jim Whitehurst and Dr. Tom Miller, executive director of the Entrepreneurship Initiative. The two organizations are teaming up to sponsor the facility.

The event included tours of rooms filled with everything from motorcycle superchargers to sketches for new textiles designs.
