Davidian to Lead Statistical Association

Dr. Marie Davidian has been elected president of the American Statistical Association, a scientific and educational society with members in 90 countries. Her ASA term begins Jan. 1, 2013.

Davidian, who joined the NC State faculty in 1987, is the William Neal Reynolds Professor of Statistics. She develops statistical models and methods to analyze clinical trials and observational studies; study the movement, effect and breakdown of drugs in the human body; and characterize disease progression for treatment design.

Davidian is a fellow of the ASA,the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics. She received the Alexander Quarles Holladay Medal for Excellence, the highest honor NC State can bestow on a faculty member, in 2010. She is a member of Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Xi honor societies.

Davidian earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in applied mathematics and computer science from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. in statistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
