10 Grad Programs Among Top 30

Ten graduate programs placed in the top 30 in new rankings released this month by U.S. News & World Report.

The top-30 graduate programs and their ranks are:

  • 5th in graduate nuclear engineering
  • 6th in graduate biological and agricultural engineering
  • 13th in graduate industrial engineering
  • 18th in graduate higher education administration
  • 20th in graduate chemical engineering
  • 20th in graduate materials engineering
  • 26th in graduate civil engineering
  • 27th in graduate computer engineering
  • 29th in overall graduate engineering
  • 30th in graduate environmental engineering

NC State also had other programs ranked in the top 35: electrical engineering was 32nd; aerospace engineering was 33rd; and mechanical engineering was 35th.

Other graduate programs ranked in the top 80 include biomedical engineering, chemistry, economics, mathematics, nonprofit management, part-time MBA, physics, public affairs, social work and sociology.

Not all graduate programs are ranked every year by U.S. News. NC State has numerous highly ranked graduate programs in a wide range of disciplines—veterinary medicine tied for third in its last ranking in 2011, for example, and statistics ranked 12th in its last ranking in 2010.

NC State also was a 5th best overall public university value in the publication’s 2013 undergraduate rankings, which were released last fall.

Besides U.S. News & World Report rankings, NC State traditionally performs well in other best value rankings, including those released by Kiplinger’s and the Princeton Review. Those rankings measure quality and affordability.
