If you love food, you’ll love Earth Day 2013 which focuses on “Barn to Brick: Sustainable Food and Agriculture at NC State.” Sign up to volunteersupport our sponsorssign the ‘For the Farm’ pledge, and most importantly mark your calendars now for a week-long menu of free events:

All Week

Art Contest
On Display in Fountain Dining Hall
Create a work of art that illustrates the Earth Day theme of sustainable food or agriculture and you could win an NC State tailgating prize package. Deadline for submission is April 10. The winner will be selected by online voting and be announced at Farm Feast on April 18. Learn more and enter for free!

Saturday, April 13

Planting My Roots
NC State’s Agroecology Education Farm, 1 – 3 p.m.
University Dining is partnering with the Agroecology Education Farm to begin serving produce grown on campus in Dining Halls.  Join us to plant seedlings alongside other NC State students, faculty, staff and alumni. Bring a pair of gloves, if you have them, and wear your Wolfpack pride.  Light hors d’oeuvres will be provided. RSVP online

Grow Your Wellness
On the Brickyard, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Live healthy – now. Through dozens of booths, interactive activities, giveaways and prizes, you’ll encounter the seven dimensions of wellness and how each can fuel a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. Plus, take the Reduce Your Waste Challenge at action-packed, Crossfit-style fitness stations that will show you how to reduce your waste and waistline. Hunt Library Auditorium, 3 p.m.
Frances Seymour, former director of the Center for International Forestry Research, will speak on “Forests for Thought: The dynamic politics of tropical forests, food security and climate change.” Invite others through Facebook

Earth Day Celebration

Witherspoon Cinema, Time coming soon
Free screening of this landmark food documentary plus a panel discussion with sustainable food experts. Attend and you could win a $50 gift card to Gravy Restaurant in Raleigh. Invite others through Facebook

Thursday, April 18

Farm Feast
4:30 – 8:30 p.m., Outside Fountain Dining Hall
University Dining is closing Fountain Dining Hall and moving dinner outside for this outdoor picnic featuring all local NC food, a live concert with bluegrass band Mandolin Orange and much more. Activities are free and dinner can be purchased for $10 (students can use meal plans). Invite others through Facebook
