Aussies Talk Food Security

Nine faculty members from the University of Adelaide presented a food security and health workshop at NC State last month in collaboration with the Office of International Affairs, the Global Health Initiative and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The workshop gave faculty from both universities new opportunities to develop partnerships that build on joint strengths in research and teaching.

NC State and the University of Adelaide have a strategic partnership to advance research collaboration and academic exchanges across areas of complementary strength and expertise.

The workshop included presentations, discussions and strategic planning in plant breeding, plant science, food bioprocessing and nutrition, soil science and animal sciences. Biotechnology partners in the Research Triangle Park attended the workshop. Facilitated collaborative brainstorming sessions, called innovation “sandpit” sessions, resulted in at least five letters of intent for multiple grant applications.

NC State and University of Adelaide students can participate in semester or yearlong exchange programs between the two institutions beginning next spring. Information about the exchange program is now available through the Study Abroad Office.
