DELTA Has Grants to Improve Courses

Grants are available from DELTA to support the planning, design and development of distance education, blended learning and traditional courses and projects. These were formerly known as IDEA Grants.

This year DELTA seeks proposals in the following categories:

  • Distance education grants support the creation or substantial revision of an online distance education course, emphasizing innovation in the use of technology and pedagogy in online teaching and learning.
  • Blended learning grants support the integration of online learning into face-to-face courses in an organized, pedagogically strategic manner resulting in a flipped course or a course that replaces some number of face-to-face sessions with online learning activities.
  • Exploratory grants support the exploration of targeted emerging technologies and their application to teaching and learning or the exploration of unique challenges in presenting, delivering or engaging students in learning.
  • Course redesign grants support the redesign of all or most sections of a large or critical-path course to improve student learning outcomes, increase completion rates and reduce instructional costs.

For the complete Request for Proposals, which includes instructions for submitting a proposal and other helpful resources, visit the DELTA Grants site.

The deadline for submitting a proposal is 5 p.m. Thursday, May 22. Proposals should be submitted electronically via the DELTA Grants Submission System, linked on the DELTA Grants site.

Proposals will be reviewed to identify those projects that offer the best match between academic unit goals, faculty expertise, student needs and DELTA resources. DELTA places a heavy emphasis on departmental and college reviews.  At any time in the review process, DELTA staff may contact applicants for more information about the project.

Consultations

Applicants are strongly encouraged to schedule a consultation with DELTA staff before or during the process of creating a grant proposal. A consultation provides the opportunity to meet with DELTA staff to ask specific questions about particular types of grants, discuss which grant might provide the best support for a proposal, and receive feedback on how well a proposal aligns with the evaluative criteria for the grant.
