Clearing Up Campus Confusion Over Voting

The court of North Carolina.

The nation’s long-discussed election season will end next Tuesday, Nov. 4, when voters across the country cast ballots to end, above anything else, the tidal wave of candidate advertisements.

However, some students have expressed confusion about where those who live in University Housing residence halls and apartments will vote. The Talley Student Union, which has been used as an early voting location during past presidential elections, is not a location for either early voting or Election Day voting in this off-year election.

Early voting began on Oct. 23 and continues through Saturday at nine early voting locations in Wake County. The closest locations to campus are the Wake County Board of Elections at 337 S. Salisbury St. and the Chavis Community Center at 505 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. A full schedule of early voting locations and times is available online.

Most University Housing residents who are registered to vote will vote at the Freedom Temple Church at 615 Royal St. in Raleigh. The two exceptions are North Hall residents, who will vote at the Brooks Avenue Church of Christ at 700 Brooks Ave., and E.S. King Village residents, who will vote at the Method Road Community Center at 514 Method Rd.

Registered students should have received a voter card earlier this month. Students unsure of where to vote can locate their polling place by finding their names on the North Carolina Board of Elections Polling Place Search site. Residence hall dwellers searching by residential address should type “0 NCSU (residence hall name)” in the Residential Address Box and the appropriate number in the zip code box. Those who live in University Housing apartments should enter their street address.

Also new this year is the elimination of same-day registration. Students who have not already registered to vote in Wake County cannot vote on Tuesday.

For more information, call the Wake County Board of Elections at 919-856-6240.
