Chancellor Thanks Ross for Leadership

NC State Faculty, Staff and Students:

Today, Tom Ross, president of the University of North Carolina system, announced that he will be stepping down from his position next January. I want to thank President Ross for his leadership of our university system and service to the state over the last several years. I have personally witnessed his dedication and commitment to higher education and student success.

We look forward to continuing our work with President Ross during his transition to ensure NC State remains among the best in the nation. We also look forward to working with his successor to build upon the great accomplishments made by NC State during his steadfast leadership.

As recently highlighted in our three-year strategic plan update, NC State is on an upward trajectory. We’re making great strides in enhancing student success, investing in faculty and staff, building powerful partnerships and fostering a culture of constant improvement.

During this time we’ve set records across the university in areas ranging from the strength of our incoming freshmen class to the growth of sponsored research and fundraising. We’re increasingly being recognized for academic excellence, as a national best value, and as a leader in community service. Citizens across North Carolina know us for the meaningful outreach we provide to their communities and for producing graduates and spin-off companies that drive our state’s economy.

These successes are being noticed and appreciated by the Board of Governors and our state’s elected officials. I am confident our next system president will recognize NC State’s positive impact on the UNC system and vital importance to the state of North Carolina.

I know you will continue joining me in our unwavering commitment to elevate NC State to even greater levels of success.
