Dining Honored for Gluten-Free Options

NC State’s University Dining has been recognized by Udi’s Gluten Free as No. 4 in the nation on its annual list of  “Top 10 Gluten-Free Accommodating Colleges.”

Udi’s Gluten Free is one of the world’s foremost innovators in gluten-free food and visits campuses around the country each year to determine which schools “innovated and breathed new life into gluten-free food choices.”

In particular, NC State was chosen for several of its technological accessibility options. By offering iPads in each dining facility, as well as optional email reminders and blog posts, students are able to quickly search included ingredients in all university foods. This transparency also carries into the training of dining staff by AllerTrain (a leader in allergy training and education) as well as clear labeling for all ingredients throughout the university.

With dining’s tradition of student inclusion, the student Allergy Ambassadors were also noted as a highlight of the gluten and allergy-free education provided at NC State. This program, and many of the other innovations in NC State’s allergy awareness initiatives, are under the direction of Lisa Eberhart, director of wellness and nutrition, who considers this achievement as inspiration to continue to make NC State a friendly place for all student needs.

“It’s nice to be recognized, but we want to continue to grow in our efforts to accommodate students with allergies and intolerances,” Eberhardt says. “My hope is that every member of the Wolfpack can be confident that NC State Dining offers an allergy free and healthy experience, anywhere on campus.”
