Shelton Forum to Focus on Cultivating New Leaders

Two prominent authors on leadership will serve as featured speakers at North Carolina State University’s General Hugh Shelton Leadership Forum on Friday, Nov. 18, at the McKimmon Center.

The one-day forum, celebrating its 15th anniversary, centers this year on “cultivating the next generation of leaders.”

Andy Albright, CEO of National Agents Alliance and author of two books on success and leadership, will talk about cultivating leaders through best practices in mentorship from 11 a.m. to noon. Marshall Goldsmith, a leadership coach and author of two New York Times bestsellers on leadership, will discuss leaders as mentors who can build partnerships from 2 to 3 p.m.

An opening panel session on strategies that help leaders effectively cultivate the next generation of leaders will include Sharon Decker, senior vice president of strategic initiatives for Tryon International Equestrian Center; Gayle Lanier, senior vice president for customer services for Duke Energy; Nicholas LaRusso, distinguished investigator for the Mayo Foundation; and Paul Odland, sales leader for State Farm Insurance Companies. That session will be held from 8:45 to 10:30 a.m.

The Shelton Leadership Forum is an annual seminar series that focuses attention on the importance of leadership development. The forum is one program offering of the General Hugh Shelton Leadership Center administered by NC State’s Office of the Provost. As executive director, Shelton is committed to developing values-based leadership skills to enhance corporate, government, education, nonprofit and youth-development organizations.
