Dance and Film Intertwine at Gregg Museum

Code f.a.d. Company performs Shift. Choreography and photo by Autumn Mist Belk.

In a first for NC State, the university’s Dance Program will present an evening of dance and film in an art gallery at the newly renovated Gregg Museum of Art and Design.

Unfiltered Response: Faculty Dances will feature original choreography by Dance Program faculty members Autumn Mist Belk, Tara Mullins and Francine Ott on Thursday, Jan. 25, at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Sanderson-Black Gallery at the Gregg Museum.

Belk will premiere Shift, an abstract dance layered with video projections, performed by Code f.a.d. Company dancers. Belk created Shift in direct response to A Door Is Not a Window, the Gregg’s exhibition of major abstract works by Raleigh artist Herb Jackson. The evening’s dance performances will take place in the gallery where the Jackson exhibit is on display.

Mullins will explore the concept of forgiveness in her solo piece (Un)Hinder and will also show two short dance films she created with filmmaker Doug Kass, an assistant professor at Elon University.

Ott will perform with UNC-Greensboro associate professor Clarice C. Young in Outta the Box, a duet the two dancers co-created to investigate what it means to live and create beyond our limitations.

The performance is free and open to the public. Free parking is available at the Gregg Museum, and nearby street parking is free after 5 p.m.
