The portion of Cates Avenue beginning at Dan Allen Drive to just in front of Carmichael Gym will be closed from noon until 2 p.m. on Thursday for the dedication of Holmes Hall, formerly known as University College Commons.
The building is being renamed for Irwin Richard Holmes Jr. ’60, NC State’s first African-American graduate and one of the first black athletes to participate for an Atlantic Coast Conference school. Read his story here.
The dedication will begin at 1 p.m. on Cates Ave. in front of Holmes Hall. Traffic in the area will resume at the end of the event.
On Friday, the annual Homecoming Parade will close much of Hillsborough Street, from Dan Allen Drive to Pullen Road. The roads will close at approximately 5:30 p.m. and reopen after 7 p.m.
