The NC State Campus Health Center’s interim medical director, Dr. Courtney Hinton, is set to receive national recognition for her impact on the Wolfpack community.
Hinton, who is a board-certified family physician, has been selected by the American College Health Association (ACHA) as a recipient of the ACHA New Professionals Award. This award is given annually to members who have provided service to the field of college health for five years or less and who have made significant contributions to their affiliate.
ACHA noted that Hinton and other winners of the award “set a wonderful example for college health professionals around the globe.”
“What an honor it is to receive this recognition from ACHA!” Hinton said. “ACHA is the premiere organization representing college health professionals across the country, so the magnitude of this award is not lost on me. I have had the privilege of growing my community within college health over the last three and a half years, and the work that we all do to care for our campus communities is both challenging and rewarding. As we continue to navigate changes in both higher education and public health, I have immense gratitude that I have the opportunity to do so as a member of NC State Campus Health. I hope that NC State will continue to be a place where I can provide value for years to come.”
Hinton joined Campus Health in 2021 after spending the first four years of her career at Avance Primary Care. She received her undergraduate degree from Howard University, a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia and a Master of Business Administration degree at St. Joseph’s University.
Throughout her medical career, Hinton has found that her interests and passion lie in adolescent and young adult health and wellness, patient education, performing arts medicine, preventive care and providing inclusive medical services to her patients.
“Dr. Hinton’s unwavering dedication to student well-being and her collaborative spirit have made a tremendous impact on the Pack community,” UNC System Vice President for Student Affairs Bethany D. Meghen wrote in an email announcing the award. “Her passion, leadership and drive to make a difference are truly inspiring, and this recognition could not be more well deserved.”
Hinton will receive her award at the ACHA 2025 Annual Meeting in New Orleans on May 28.
