Leadership Transition in the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost

NC State students, faculty and staff,

I am writing to share the news that after more than 16 years of exemplary service as our executive vice chancellor and provost, Warwick Arden will step down from his role and return to the faculty in the College of Veterinary Medicine.

For nearly two decades, Warwick has provided steady and forward-looking leadership for NC State. His vision and hard work have helped grow our academic colleges and programs, shape the campus experience and positively impact NC State’s reputation and recognition.

He was instrumental in developing and implementing the university’s two most recent strategic plans, “The Pathway to the Future” and “Wolfpack 2030: Powering the Extraordinary.” He has also been a champion of our faculty and students, establishing key initiatives such as the Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program and the University Faculty Scholars Program to attract and retain top talent.

Beyond his academic leadership, he has been a tireless advocate for our university’s growth, overseeing major capital projects that have transformed our campus. This includes the construction of the James B. Hunt Jr. Library, Fitts-Woolard Hall, the Plant Sciences Building and Woodson Hall.

We will begin a national search for our next executive vice chancellor and provost in the coming weeks. In the meantime, Warwick will continue in his role until a replacement is named, working closely with me to ensure a seamless transition.

Please join me in extending our deepest gratitude to Warwick for his tireless service and countless contributions to our university. Because of his work and commitment, NC State is most certainly a better place with a brighter future.

Thank you,

Kevin Howell
Chancellor
