Forget a penny for your thoughts. How about $500 for your poetry? That’s the grand prize in the Creative Writing Program’s annual poetry contest.

The competition, open to North Carolina residents, is one of the largest free-entry contests in the South. The deadline for entries is March 1. Follow the online guidelines to enter your work.

Guest judge Thomas Lux, the poet-in-residence at Sarah Lawrence College, will announce the winners and give a reading at 7 p.m. on March 30, in the Titmus Theatre.
