Campuswide WolfAlert Drill Scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 18
Good morning,
NC State Emergency Management and Mission Continuity will conduct a campuswide WolfAlert active threat drill on Tuesday, Feb. 18. During the drill, all class, work and business functions should stop and you should identify key emergency evacuation and safety options based on your location when the drill begins.
Active threats can include a shooter on campus, bomb threat, train derailment or other issue that requires you to quickly act or remain in place until an all-clear announcement.
Simulating an active threat notification gives the campus community an opportunity to practice what to do in a real emergency. During the drill, please answer the following questions for yourself and with those around you:
- Where is the closest emergency exit?
- Are you in a room or space that has a door that can be closed and locked?
- In the space you’re in, where can you hide?
- Are there any movable items near you that can be used to barricade an entrance?
The drill should last no longer than 15 minutes and will end after an all-clear announcement. Notifications will be sent through all WolfAlert system methods, which are campus sirens, the OnCampus App, the NC State homepage, text messaging, email, Alertus Desktop, digital billboard screens and social media accounts Facebook and X. In the event of a real emergency, weather threat or other safety situation, the drill will be postponed.
This semester’s drill is a continuation of NC State’s ongoing emergency preparedness exercises. It is the responsibility of every member of the Wolfpack to prepare for emergency events and to know what to do to ensure the safety of ourselves and one another. Here are a few things you can do today to be ready for any emergency and better understand the upcoming drill:
- Get informed: Review the university’s emergency preparedness information and think through situations you may face as an individual on and off campus.
- Make a plan: Locate the emergency exits in the areas you frequent on campus and sign up for WolfAlerts if you haven’t already.
- Take action: Be ready to quickly take action in the event of any emergency.
The best time to prepare for an emergency situation is now. Please review the university’s recommended preparedness information and plan accordingly for the WolfAlert active threat drill on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
Thank you.
