Energy, Water Use Way Down

NC State’s recent energy and water savings are worth howling about. The university’s recently-released 2013 Energy and Water Report reveals that campus uses 49 percent less water and 21 percent less energy than a decade ago. Last year alone the university generated an 11-percent reduction in water use and a 9-percent reduction in energy use over the previous year, totaling annual cost savings of more than $763,000.

This progress moves the university closer to its 2015 goal of using 30 percent less energy than it used in 2003 and within easy reach of its goal to cut 2002 water consumption in half by 2015.

NC State’s Energy Management, which cost-effectively manages energy and water resources purchased and consumed by the university, produces the Annual Energy and Water Report.
