Atkins Named Distinguished Professor
Dr. Clarke Atkins, professor of medicine and cardiology in the College of Veterinary Medicine, has been named the recipient of the Jane Lewis Seaks Distinguished Professorship for Companion Animal Medicine.
The distinguished professorship is endowed by Terry G. Seaks, a member of the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Foundation Board of Directors, to honor his wife of 38 years and recognize the care their family pets have received at the CVM Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The $1 million endowed professorship is made possible with the Seaks’ donation of appreciated securities, matching funds from the R.B. Terry Charitable Foundation and the Distinguished Professor Endowment Trust Fund through the University of North Carolina General Administration.
Atkins, who joined NC State in 1989, is known for his research and teaching in small animal cardiology, having authored more than 150 publications, a multimedia interactive computer program in canine cardiology and numerous textbook chapters. Board certified in veterinary internal medicine and cardiology, he has spoken extensively in the United States and abroad.
