Forensic Academy Elects Oliver

Dr. Billy L. Oliver, an adjunct assistant professor in the sociology and anthropology department, has been elected to the American Academy of Forensic Sciences as an associate member in the general section.

He was elected based on scholarly achievements, contributions to the field of forensic sciences and professional assistance with more than 60 homicide investigations.

Oliver serves as research center director for the Office of State Archaeology in the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources.

In 2001, he organized a consortium of scientific experts to create a forensic science institute at NC State. This emerging multidisciplinary program has been awarded $2.6 million in federal research grants in the past 18 months.

Oliver earned a bachelor’s degree from James Madison University and master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
