Barrow Earns Certification

Mary Elizabeth Barrow, Sea Grant fiscal officer, earned the title of Certified Research Administrator (CRA). She passed a Research Administrators Certification Council exam, a credential for administering professional research or sponsored programs at a university.

Barrow’s current responsibilities include managing North Carolina’s state and federal Sea Grant funding, along with the associated grants or proposals. She also handles coastal and marine studies grants the program awards to university researchers and individuals.

Barrow is one of 28 CRAs on campus. North Carolina has 100 CRAs total, more than any other state in the nation.

Barrow began her career with Sea Grant in 2002 after graduating from East Carolina University. She went on to work in the university Office of Contracts and Grants and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering before returning to Sea Grant in 2009.
