North Carolina State University’s Encore Program for Lifelong Enrichment, which offers a variety of non-credit programs for adults aged 50 and older, has begun registration for its fall 2010 courses, trips and events, which run from Sept. 8 to Dec. 10.
Forty-one short courses and six lectures covering a range of subjects in the liberal arts and sciences will be offered. Offerings include new courses on Africa, opera, Brazil, geography and U.S. Army history, as well as popular repeat courses on genealogy, antiques, digital photography and financial planning. Study trips include a two-day trip to tour new sites in Charlotte, a trip to High Point for the N.C. Shakespeare Festival and a local visit to NC State’s Lake Wheeler Field lab, which will focus on vermicomposting. Pre-registration for a spring trip to Argentina will also take place in the fall. Encore’s fall open house on Sept. 8 will feature Dr. Gene Nichol, professor of law and director of the University of North Carolina’s Center on Poverty, Work & Opportunity.
Encore’s membership fee is $50 and runs from September 2010 through August 2011. The membership includes select social and lecture events, the opportunity to participate in diverse special interest groups, and NC State benefits such as library privileges. Most short courses are $50 each; trip and event prices vary. Call 919/515-5782 for a free catalog or visit Encore on the Web.
